Nearly 100 high school football players on Long Island were treated to an NFL-style combine, thanks to the support of local professional talent.
Elijah Riley, Denzel Williams, and Jelani Green — former football teammates at Newfield High School in 2015 — recently established a nonprofit called L.I.MITLESS Foundation to give back to the community and promote football on the Island.
With impressive professional backgrounds — Riley currently plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Williams previously played for the Baltimore Ravens, and Green is a football content creator who has collaborated with some of the sport’s biggest stars — the trio organized their inaugural Friday Night Lights: Combine.
This event recorded college-verified performance metrics such as the 40-yard dash, pro shuttle, broad jump, and vertical jump, all of which are crucial for college coaches evaluating talent.
“This is something we never had,” said Williams. “Now, players can see their official scores and work on improving them.”
The event, which was free for students, took place at Breezy Park in Huntington Station on a Friday afternoon.
“The turnout is great for something that was short notice,” said Riley, who said they recently came up with an idea.
Riley and Williams weren’t the only professionals present — newly-minted Las Vegas Raider and Westhampton native Dylan Laube also lent his support. Laube, a running back from New Hampshire University, was drafted in the sixth round last Saturday.
