Owen Glascoe of Massapequa Park invited to New England Patriots rookie camp

This All-American tight end from Massapequa Park is ready to show he belongs in the NFL.

Long Island University product Owen Glascoe received an invite to the New England Patriots rookie minicamp, LIU announced on Monday via X (formerly Twitter).

For the uninitiated, the difference between being signed as an undrafted free agent and being invited to a rookie minicamp is undrafted signees receive an actual contract while the latter gets a stipend during what essentially is a three-day tryout.

Rookie minicamps across the league will happen on either May 3-6 or May 10-13. The Patriots haven’t announced which weekend they will host.

Glascoe, who transferred from Penn State, has starred for the Sharks for the last five seasons, notching 138 catches for 1,620 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Last season, he did it all — earning him a third-team FCS All-American nod, as well as first-team All-NEC. While catching 26 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns, he also rushed the ball 37 times for 186 yards and six scores. And he went 2-for-2 in pass attempts for two touchdowns with 21 yards.

The big-bodied Massapequa High School alum stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs in at 258 pounds.

Former LIU quarterback Derek Green — the son of NFL legend Trent Green — played one season for the Sharks after he transferred from SMU. It was clear to him in 2022 that Glascoe could compete with the best.

“He’s got the size, speed, and ability…He can run, block, catch,” said Green, who threw passes to Grant Calcaterra (Philadelphia Eagles, sixth round, 2022), Kylen Granson (Indianapolis Colts, fourth round, 2021), and Ryan Becker (Arizona Cardinals, undrafted signee, 2020).

In his final season as a Shark, Glascoe was asked to do more after the team turned to a freshman quarterback. He made plays like this, which made him a 2024 NFL rookie prospect.
