The Criiio initiative is a global campaign that promotes the joy of cricket in its most informal forms, from backyard matches to beach cricket.


Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman announced today that in anticipation of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup, he will host a Criiio Cricket Social Festival for youth up to age 16 on May 17th from 5:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at Parking Fields 2 & 3 in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. This event, inspired by the ICC’s Criiio program, aims to showcase cricket as a vibrant, inclusive sport that can be played anywhere, by anyone, at any time.


 


The Criiio initiative is a global campaign that promotes the joy of cricket in its most informal forms, from backyard matches to beach cricket. By integrating Criiio into schools and community programs, the ICC aims to make cricket more accessible to children and youth around the world. In efforts to promote Criiio and integrate the Criiio curriculum in Nassau County schools, the ICC will provide a 100 free kits to the hosting city.


 


The Criiio Cricket Festival on May 17th aims to bring the community together, offering young enthusiasts a firsthand experience of cricket during an exciting time when the United States is preparing to host one of the most globally popular sports events. This festival not only celebrates the spirit of cricket but also emphasizes the sport’s capacity to unite diverse groups through shared play and enjoyment.


 


“During the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup there will be tens of thousands in attendance and over a billion viewers around the world watching the World Cup matches being held here in Nassau County,” said County Executive Blakeman.  “This Criiio Cricket Social Festival creates an opportunity for our young people to participate in a workshop where they will learn more about this globally popular sport.”


 


Nassau County will be front and center to around the world during the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.  Games are scheduled from June 3rd – June 12th in Eisenhower Park. This venture is being fully funded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and T20 World Cup USA.
