As part of their training, the recruits completed 31 weeks of academy training with more than 1,000 hours of instruction.


Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine and Suffolk County Acting Police Commissioner Robert Waring presided over the Suffolk County Police Academy graduation ceremony in Brentwood on May 2 at 10 a.m.


 


As part of their training, the recruits completed 31 weeks of academy training with more than 1,000 hours of instruction including law, emergency medical training, domestic violence, anti-bias training, mental illness, cultural diversity, terrorism, and body-worn camera technology.


 


Of the 136 SCPD recruits, 31% are minorities, 41% have prior law enforcement experience and 18% have military experience.


 


In addition to the Suffolk County Police recruits, 39 recruits graduated and joined the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, East Hampton Town Police Department, Farmingdale State College Police Department, Garden City Police Department, Riverhead Town Police Department, Southampton Town Police Department and Southold Town Police Department.
