With a decisive home win over Patchogue-Medford on Friday, William Floyd’s varsity girls basketball team clinched its second consecutive League I title.

The Colonials are now 18-1 overall (14-1 in league play) after their 67-47 victory over Patchogue-Medford (11-7). The teams’ first matchup this season was much more competitive, with William Floyd edging the Raiders, 55-54.

The Colonials only defeat came at the hands of Ward Melville. It was a 45-42 road loss early in the season on Dec. 12. William Floyd avenged that defeat when they crushed Ward Melville, 55-31, on Jan. 18.

William Floyd has one regular season game left on its schedule, Feb. 14 at Brentwood, before the county playoffs begin later this month.

Earlier this season, senior Kayla Gilmore passed the 1,000-point scoring mark for her William Floyd career, and then broke the program’s all-time points scored record. Jacky Sutherland on Friday became the second Colonial thisyear to reach the 1,000-point career mark.
