The man, whose identity or physical condition has yet to be released by MTA officials, was said to have been trespassing on the tracks.
According to Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police, a man was struck by a Long Island Railroad train while walking on the tracks on the morning of Friday, January 19, causing delays for commuters while officials investigated the unfortunate incident.
The man, whose identity or physical condition has yet to be released by MTA officials, was said to have been trespassing on the tracks when they were hit just east of the Sayville LIRR station at approximately 8 a.m.
As a result of the incident, the MTA ceased rail service for a period of one hour on the Montauk Branch between Babylon and Patchogue, with passengers riding that line transferred to a different train in order to minimize delays.
Regular service on the Montauk Branch resumed at about 9.a.m., although continued investigations into the incident on the part of MTAPD and LIRR supervisors may result in additional minor delays.
