San Antonio has dropped their roster for the upcoming spring UFL season and Sayville’s Jack Coan is again playing quarterback for the Brahmas.

Spending most of the 2023 season as the Brahmas’ QB1, the former Notre Dame signal caller threw for 1,471 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie. San Antonio finished 3-7 and narrowly missed the playoffs.

Coan’s squad is one of five teams remaining from last year’s eight-team XFL, which has merged with another spring league, the USFL, to form the United Football League. Eight teams — split up into two divisions — will play in the UFL.

Not only is Coan the face of the Brahmas’ franchise — he is pictured in the majority of their promotional material on social media — he is also one of the front-and-center faces of the league. On the home page of the UFL, Coan is one of the eight players pictured in the marquee image.

Coan’s Brahmas will play in the “XFL” conference with the D.C. Defenders, Arlington Renegades and St. Louis Battlehawks. Lined up in the “USFL” conference are the Michigan Panthers, Memphis Showboats, Birmingham Stallions and Houston Roughnecks.

Last year’s champions, the Arlington Renegades, are no longer in existence.

Below is a highlight reel of Coan from the 2023 season.

Last year, Coan played for head coach Hines Ward, the retired Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver. This spring, he will be coached by longtime NFL coach Wade Phillips. Last year, Phillips guided Houston to a 7-3 regular season record and a birth in the XFL playoffs.

In the NFL, Phillips is 89-67 as a head coach with Dallas, Buffalo and Denver. He also served as interim coach with Houston, Atlanta and New Orlean in the NFL.

Since being cut by Indianapolis at the end of NFL training camp in August 2022, Coan has been invited to work out for a myriad of NFL teams.

The 2017 Sayville High School graduate played three seasons for Wisconsin before transferring to Notre Dame and leading the Irish to an 11-2 record and an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl in 2021.
