LI Nets have adopted two “littles” who will shadow team executives during the 2023-24 NBA G League season.

In a continuing effort to support Long Island youth, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island (BBBSLI) has announced a partnership with the Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets for the 2023-24 season.

Beginning this month, the NBA G League affiliate will embark on a three-month commitment to provide monthly career mentoring to two local high school students (“littles”) enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island’s Rise Up program. During the three-month period, the two students will participate in hands-on learning opportunities with the LI Nets, including shadowing and assisting employees at various home games, as well as learn more about different career opportunities in sports by building professional relationships with industry executives.

“I am thrilled about the powerful collaboration between Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island and the Long Island Nets,” said Mark Cox, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island. “The commitment from the Long Island Nets to provide career mentoring aligns perfectly with our mission, and I’m excited to witness the positive impact it will have on our young mentees.”

For over 40 years, BBBSLI has remained steadfast in its dedication to the belief that every child deserves the chance to reach their full potential as individuals and active citizens. The organization’s professionally supported mentoring relationships have positively impacted the lives of numerous young individuals, laying the groundwork for a better and brighter future.

“We are excited to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island,” said Morgan Taylor, Vice President of Business Operations at the Long Island Nets. “As a former BBBSLI youth mentor and a local Long Island native, I have seen the impact of the organization first-hand and I’m thrilled to help to provide a positive experience for the next generation of scholars through the lens of business and basketball operations.”

The partnership is the latest in a series of recent community events the two organizations have collaborated on together. In October, Dale the Eagle, the official mascot of the NBA G League affiliate, make a special appearance surprising children at the BBBSLI’s Halloween-themed Spooktacular event, and in December, the LI Nets surprised eight local BBBSLI families with a holiday shopping spree at the Levittown Target as part of their annual Season of Giving campaign.
