PSEG Long Island has confirmed plans to purchase the property at 3351 Route 112 in Medford, the former Country Fair that closed recently, to use as an operations center.
“PSEG Long Island confirms that PSEG Long Island as agent of and on behalf of the Long Island Power Authority is under contract to purchase the former Country Fair site to construct the Medford Operations Center,” the agency said in an email to LongIsland.com.
The utility said it worked with the Town of Brookhaven and the Medford Taxpayers and Civic Association on a proposed site plan and they received the necessary approvals from the Central Pine Barrens Joint Planning and Policy Commission, last month.
An Environmental Notice Bulletin posted online also says that the Long Island Power Authority, as lead agency, “has determined that the proposed Medford Operations Center will not have a significant adverse environmental impact.”
It further explains that the plan involves converting the existing 10,000-square-foot Country Fair recreational building to an administrative office building and construction of a 21,000-square-foot warehouse and 16,000-square-foot-garage for a fleet of service vehicles.
A 396 parking lot is proposed, including 239 standard vehicle parking spaces with the requisite Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) handicap accessible spaces for employee and visitor use; along with additional fleet vehicle parking spaces, according to the online report. Also proposed is a gasoline and diesel fueling station with above ground gasoline and diesel storage tanks. The main fleet parking lot will be covered by a solid canopy for solar panels to power canopy underlighting and support proposed Electric Vehicle (EV) charging units.
“This property will be used for a new centralized operational center to enhance response times and the quality of service in the Brookhaven area,” PSEG Long Island said in its statement.
