TGI Fridays announced that the closed locations, spread out over 12 states, are “part of the brand’s ongoing growth strategy.”
Restaurant chain TGI Friday’s shocked both customers and employees alike on Tuesday when they abruptly closed dozens of their restaurants nationwide without any notice whatsoever, citing that the locations in question – including three located on Long Island – were underperforming and not meeting profitability goals.
While many former employees were given the option of transferring to other restaurants, reports say, the surprising development nonetheless has left many completely out of work and on the unemployment line right after the holiday season.
TGI Friday’s closed a total of 36 locations on Tuesday; the Long Island locations affected by this sudden purge on the company’s part include:

TGI Fridays announced on Wednesday that the closure of the 36 “underperforming locations,” spread out over 12 states, is “part of the brand’s ongoing growth strategy.” In addition, the company is selling an additional eight corporate-owned restaurants to its former CEO Ray Blanchette.
Currently, there are over 850 TGI Fridays restaurants in more than 55 countries, including 278 in the U.S. as of October 2023.
