
The incident occurred Saturday, July 15 in Hicksville, according to Nassau County Police.
The man was with his 34-year-old girlfriend at the Days Inn at 828 South Oyster Bay Road around 12:30 p.m.
The two allegedly got into a verbal altercation that turned into a physical altercation when Damar Collins, 36, grabbed the woman by the neck and put her in a chokehold.
She was reportedly holding the couple’s one-year-old child in her arms when he strangled her.
The woman was able to flee the scene and reported the incident to police a few days later.
On Tuesday, July 18, police went to the hotel with the woman and arrested Collins.
Collins reportedly wounded the officer while resisting arrest. Police described him as violent and aggressive.
Further investigation revealed that Collins was in possession of a metal tube containing a white substance that officials believed was cocaine.

criminal obstructed breathing
endangering the welfare of children
Illegal Possession of a Controlled Substance
resist arrest
assault
He is due to appear at First Magistrates Court on Friday, July 28.
