A shuttered theater complex in the San Fernando Valley could get a second life as a Tesla showroom.

Winnetka Pacific Theaters, a multiplex in the West San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Chatsworth, closed in March 2020 as the rapidly spreading pandemic closed theaters across the country, including some of Los Angeles’ most famous venues.

Now, Decurion Corporation, the parent company of the Chatsworth Theatre, has submitted an application to convert the abandoned complex into a Tesla dealership and service center. According to the planning application, the new space will total 111,000 square feet.

The electric automaker already has more than a dozen showrooms in the greater Los Angeles area, including Century City, Long Beach and Westchester. In the San Fernando Valley, it has existing locations in Burbank, Canoga Park and Agoura Hills.

The latest plans change Decurion’s previous thinking about repurposing the site. In late 2021, the company submitted an application for a three-building, 274,000-square-foot industrial complex.

The closed theater complex is located at 9201 Winnetka Avenue in the eastern suburbs of Chatsworth. Last year, Rexford bought a 232,000-square-foot office park in the area for $42 million.
