At around 5 a.m. on Friday, July 14, Nassau County Police received a call from a Hewlett Place man reporting a burglary at his home.

The man, Ilya Ostrovskiy, 37, told police his alarm clock woke him up and he reported seeing three men running from his living room came out and left his house through the back door.

The thieves allegedly fled the home in a red Jeep Cherokee and also stole Ostrovsky’s 2023 Audi RS 6.

Ostrovsky reportedly shot the thieves three times as they fled.

Further investigation revealed that Ostrovsky was in possession of the following firearms:

  • 22 semi-automatic pistols;
  • 19 assault rifles;
  • Numerous red dot pistol and rifle sights;
  • Large capacity magazine;
  • ballistic panels; and
  • Body armor vest.

He was arrested at the scene and charged with multiple counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon.

Ostrovsky was detained on $200,000 cash or $400,000 bond. He will return to First Local Court on Tuesday, July 18.
