Brian G. Murphy passed away on July 7, 2023 in Sarasota, Florida at the age of 81.He has lived in Laurel and Mattituck, New York
Brian was born March 29, 1942, in Brooklyn, to Benjamin and Helen Curtin Murphy. He grew up in the Huntington area and met and married his first wife, Pamela Martin, in 1966. In 1972, they moved to Laurel, New York, where they raised their three daughters. Pam died in 1994 before Brian.
Bryan worked in Suffolk County earlier in his career and later in horticulture as a sales representative and business owner for Murphy Tree Farm, where he enjoyed socializing with friends and clients. In 1998, Bryan married his second wife, Barbara Cattrall. In 2002 they became owners of Murphy’s Spirit Shoppe, a shopping mall in Mattituck.
Brian was involved with the Southold Township Republican Club and served as Southold Township Councilor from 1998-2001. He is also a long-time member of the Lions Club, first the James Porter Lions Club and then the Mattituck Lions Club in the late 1990s.
Brian will be missed by many, especially his wife of nearly 25 years, Barbara, and his children: Erin (John), Kerry (Mike), Megan (Chris), David ( Erica) and Sandy; and his 11 grandchildren: Caitlin, Emily, Crysten, Matthew, Brendan, Sam, Sean, Julia, Faith, Marc and Olivia.
A memorial service will be held at the McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead on Thursday, August 10 from 6-8 pm.
Memorial donations can be donated to the Mattituck Lions Club or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
