The race for the most expensive home in Orange County history has intensified.

A mansion in the Harbor Island enclave of Newport Beach recently listed for $74 million, according to media reports, including Orange County Register.

If it sold at its listing price, 20 Harbor Island Road would hold the title of most expensive home sale in Orange County history. Nearly two years on, Joseph Edelman maintained that distinction when he paid $70 million in November 2021 for a mansion in the Irvine Cove area of Laguna Beach.

Sellers Leslie Shattuck and her siblings chose to sell the home after the death of their mother, Catherine Shattuck, in May. “We didn’t have anyone get it, and we decided it’s best that no one got it,” Shattuck told the Wall Street Journal. A family member has lived in the house since 1951.

The 3,600-square-foot, six-bedroom home sits on just under a half-acre of land on Harbor Island’s waterfront. The home has a private dock for multiple yachts. There are about 29 other homes on the island and it is a gated community.

Listing the property are Rob Giem of Compass and Evan Corkett and Steve High are part of Coldwell Banker Realty. Coquette and Hay had experienced Orange County’s tall mansions before. They represented the sellers of the $70 million mansion, which is currently the most expensive auction lot in Orange County.

Some of Orange County’s other most expensive listings are in the Newport Coast enclave. These include “6 Midsummer,” which is priced at $70 million. Among them are 46 Deep Sea and 31 High Water, priced at $60 million.
