Johnnie Funderburke, 38, of Bellport, was sentenced to 35 years to life imprisonment in Suffolk County Court on Thursday 13 July.

In June 2023, a jury found him guilty of more than a dozen drug and weapons charges.

According to prosecutors, Funderburke sold the heroin in June 2021 to an undercover detective with the Suffolk County Police Department.

He later sold heroin and cocaine to the same undercover detective twice more.

In July 2021, police executed a search warrant at his Bellport home, where fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and amphetamines were found, prosecutors said.

Investigators also found two digital scales, a loaded 9mm pistol and cash.

On Monday, June 12, a jury found Funderburke guilty of:

  • Second degree offense for possession of a controlled substance
  • Five counts of third-degree offenses of selling a controlled substance
  • Six counts of third-degree possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of a weapon second degree crime
  • Third Degree Possession of a Weapon
  • Two counts of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance
  • Seventh Degree Criminal Offense for Possession of a Controlled Substance

“This violent, once-convicted felon decided to sell drugs and own a loaded gun. As a result of this choice, he will now go to jail, which will make our streets safer,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond De Tierney said.

“We will not allow violent felons to push drugs onto the streets and communities of Suffolk County without serious consequences.”

Funderburke’s criminal record includes felony convictions for attempted robbery and weapons charges from 2007 to 2011.
