Peter Minichello of West Islip was arrested on Wednesday, July 12, more than a year after the alleged incident.

On July 6, 2022, he pushed the 5-year-old Chihuahua mix down the stairs of his Edgewood Road home, according to Suffolk County Police.

The dog, which belonged to a family member, died from his injuries.

An investigation conducted by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Biological, Environmental and Animal Safety Team (BEAST) determined that Minichiello’s actions directly contributed to the dog’s death, according to police.

He was charged with the following crimes, all felonies:

  • severe animal cruelty
  • criminal mischief

He was released on a notice to appear and is scheduled to appear at Central Islip 1 Local Court on Tuesday, August 1.
