An application was submitted to the Town of Brookhaven for a new 30,000 square foot building and garden center.

Brikmann’s has five locations on Long Island and is looking to expand its Miller Place store, which owner Hank Brinkmann says is doing very well.
“We’re seeing more demand than we can handle,” he told LongIsland.com.
Brinkmann’s Hardware’s store at 900 Route 25A has outgrown the company’s 10,000-square-foot store. They plan to convert the current property into a medical office. Zoning for such uses is already in place, and Brickman said he already has interested parties looking to lease.
An application has been submitted to the Town of Brookhaven to build a new center on the King’s Nursery property. Brinkman said they are now awaiting a public hearing.
The vibe at Brinkmann’s Hardware is nothing like the typical big box hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot. They sell a wide selection of merchandise for homeowners in a smaller setting, and their colleagues are also quite compelling. They also don’t carry many larger items at Miller Square, such as lumber,Although that will change with new store openings.
Brinkman said the new building planned for King’s Nursery will be much larger, about 30,000 square feet, and they will use what he calls convenience woods, including two-by-four, two-by-six lightweight hybrids, pine planks and molding materials.
“For small projects,” Brinkman said.
It will also include a garden center. The property totals just under three acres.
The general store style of Brinkmann’s will be retained.
“It will be a larger version of what we have now, with the addition of a garden center,” Brinkman said.
According to the owners, the reaction to Brinkmann’s plans has been positive so far. They received letters of support from the community behind King’s Nursery and the Miller Square Civic Association.
The application was formally filed about a month ago, according to Brinkman.
As for the timeline, the company depends on the approval process.
“It’s all in the hands of the town government,” he said.
