Highland Falls, N.Y. Gov. Kathy Hochul said at a news conference that a 35-year-old woman in Highland Falls, N.Y. Tragically died while trying to rescue her dog. on Monday.

“When she came out, she found out that there was too much water in her house,” she said. “She was with the fog, and her fiancé saw her being swept away. Horror, right here.”


Highland Falls, the hardest-hit part of Orange County by the storm, received 8.12 inches of rain in 24 hours.
