Following an investigation, Suffolk County Police Major Crime Squad detectives determined that Andre Desvignes, 55, of Central Islip, was responsible for the robberies at:

  • Bethpage Federal Credit Union, 233 South Research Place, Central Islip, Tuesday, May 30.
  • United States Postal Service, 136 Carleton Ave., Islip Terrace, Wednesday, June 21.
  • Bethpage Federal Credit Union, 233 South Research Place, Central Islip, Thursday, June 29.
  • United States Postal Service, 136 Carleton Ave., Islip Terrace, Friday, July 7.

On Wednesday, July 5, Desvigne also attempted to rob the Bethpage Federal Credit Union at 1350 Deer Park Avenue, police said.

Desvigne was arrested Friday and charged with four counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery.

He was held overnight at the Suffolk County Police Department Third Precinct and is scheduled to appear in Central Islip 1 Local Court on Saturday, July 8.
