Thor Sher Torkelson
Tor Kjell Torkelsen passed away peacefully at his home on July 1, 2023 at 8:05 pm, aged 67, of 35 years in Southold, NY, with His wife of 47 years, children and grandchildren are by his side.
Thor was known as a passionate and caring man who loved his Lord Jesus, family, church and those he came into contact with.
As a local contractor, he is a hard worker who puts his heart and soul into every project and home he works on.
He is proud of his Norwegian roots and likes to go back and visit the land his family has passed down for generations as often as possible.
Thor decided at an early age to follow Jesus and live for Him. In 1992, he became an active member of “Gideon International” and traveled to our country and around the world to tell people about Jesus by sharing his personal testimony and offering the Bible and New Testament. He would also be involved in helping to build the Open Doors Church in Southold, and in his later years was an active member and board member of the Church of the True Light, which now meets in the former church building.
Thor’s greatest treasure is his family, whom he loves and prays for often. Thor is survived by his wife Joan. Children and spouses: Kristin Joni, Peter Tor (Nicole) and Josef Tor (Becky); and his grandchildren Carissa, Brooke, Larsen and Kaili. He is survived by his mother, Astri Torkelsen, sister, Lillian, and many other family members, all of whom Thor loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, please give to some ministries that Tor is passionate about: Gideons International (gideons.org) and True Light Church (truelightnofo.org). There will be plans to host a Celebration of Life service in the near future.
