Rescuers soon realized the two teenagers had been swept further east by the tide.

With additional resources deployed by the Suffolk County Police Air Force, including a helicopter, Kachigue Fire Department crews soon saw an arm waving in the water further east.

The first teen was pulled from the water, and authorities reported that she was visibly exhausted when she was rescued.

The second victim was found about 200 feet away from the first victim, also exhausted when rescuers found him.

The department added that the pair were “well over” four miles from shore when they were rescued.
