Tayquan Mayo-Dunmore, 30, of Bellport, was charged in Suffolk County Court on Friday, July 7 with seven counts of assault including vehicular assault.

The accident occurred on Saturday, June 10 at approximately 8 p.m. on Bellport Avenue near Louise Avenue in Bellport.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Mayo-Dunmore lost control of the Kawasaki ATV while driving while intoxicated and crashed.

The vehicle overturned, causing passenger Jessilyn Johnson, 26, to hit her head on the sidewalk.

Johnson was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition and in an induced coma.

Mayo Dunmore was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue with minor injuries.

Suffolk County Police later determined that the man’s driver’s license had been suspended at the time.

Mayo-Dunmore was arraigned in court Friday on the following charges:

  • Three counts of vehicular assault (felony)
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol (felony)
  • DUI (felony)
  • Two counts of aggravated driving a motor vehicle without a license (felony)

He was ordered to be held on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond and is due to appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 9.
