The incident happened on Wednesday, July 5 at the Bethpage Federal Credit Union on Deer Park Drive in North Babylon.
According to Suffolk County Police, a man walked into the branch around 9:30 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding cash.
He then fled the bank on foot, penniless. Police did not say why the robbery was unsuccessful.
The suspect is described as black, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was wearing gloves, a baseball cap, a surgical mask and glasses, a gray sweatshirt and sneakers.
