Police say a 2023 Mack garbage truck rear-ended a 2019 Honda Accord while traveling eastbound on Express Drive South.


Monday, July 3, 2023 Suffolk County Police 4th Squad detectives are investigating a multi-vehicle crash in Harpak that resulted in the death of a man.


A 2023 Mack garbage truck driven by Jaswinder Singh was traveling eastbound on Express Drive South when it rear-ended a 2019 Honda Accord, which was in Motor Stopped at a red light at the Parkway intersection and the truck skidded. A 2018 Thomas-built school bus then rear-ended a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep got stuck in the front of the garbage truck and crashed into a 2009 Toyota Matrix, causing the Toyota to spin and hit a utility pole.


The driver of the Honda Accord, Joseph Kelly, 24, of West Islip, was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the Jeep and Toyota were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The bus driver and the three young children on board were not injured.


The truck driver, Singer, 51, of Bellerose, New York, was not injured. Singer has received multiple subpoenas.


The truck and three vehicles were seized for security checks. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact 4th Squad detectives at 631-854-8452.
