At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, Nassau County police arrested Michael Masone, 37, of Massapequa resident, for illegal possession of fireworks.

Arson and bomb squads seized 113 boxes of fireworks and 400 mortars from Masone’s home, according to the police department.

Nassau County Police reminded residents in a statement that the use of explosives, including fireworks, is illegal and “extremely dangerous.”

It continued: “For the safety of all residents and visitors, Nassau County Police will continue to have a zero-tolerance approach to the possession and illegal use of fireworks.”

Mason is accused of:

  • Explosives – Permits and Certificates
  • illegal storage of explosives
  • illegal possession of fireworks

He is due to appear at First Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 13.
