The incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, July 3 at the Hauppauge, exit 57, eastbound off-ramp of Express Drive South.
According to Suffolk County Police, a garbage truck rear-ended a school bus and three other vehicles that were parked at a red light at the Auto Boulevard intersection.
A man in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his identity.
The other two were taken to hospital for treatment.
No one on the school bus was injured, police said.
The Suffolk County Police Department is investigating the incident.
