Following the retirement of former principal Bill Brennen, East Islip Secondary School announced the appointment of Michael Hansen as new headmaster.

Hanson previously served as the district’s director of science and mathematics and previously served as vice principal at East Islip High School.

He spent 22 years as a science teacher and later as the Dean of Students before moving to the East Islip Connet School District.

“My goal is to create a safe and stimulating environment where students have the confidence to actively participate in their education, take risks in their learning, and support their social-emotional needs,” Hansen said in a statement.

“I am so grateful and excited for the trust that the community has placed in me to guide young learners during a critical time in their development.”

A Rocky Point resident, Hanson holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island and a certified master’s degree in education and administration from Stony Brook University.
