An up-and-coming logistics company led by a former Amazon executive is taking up a lot of new office space in Dallas.

San Francisco-based Flexport, led by CEO Dave Clark, will occupy 50,000 square feet across four floors at Galleria Towers on LBJ Freeway on Noel Road, the Dallas Morning News reported. Space report. The renovated offices are expected to be completed later this year. Chicago-based Huntsman Construction Group is the designer of the $6.7 million project.

The buildings, which were purchased by Atlanta’s Piedmont Office Realty Trust in 2020 for $400 million, are also leased to Amazon Web Services.

Galleria Towers is connected to the sprawling Galleria Dallas shopping center in North Dallas, about 15 minutes from Southern Methodist University along the Dallas North Turnpike.

Founded in 2013, Flexport has grown rapidly over the past few years, adding hundreds of employees to over 3,000 by the end of last year. Venture capital firms including Andreessen Horowitz and Michael Dell’s MSD Partners have backed the company, which uses a digital platform to provide services for the transportation and storage of consumer goods. Another former Amazon executive, Teresa Carlson, joined Flexport earlier this year.

The arrival of big tech companies bodes well for Dallas office buildings. As in most U.S. cities, the pandemic-fueled trend of remote work led to a surge in Big-D office vacancies, and the woes began to ripple across the city. There are approximately 7.6 million square feet of sublease space in Dallas, most of which are concentrated in the downtown area.
