The Rye Police Department announced that Richard A. Olmino, 21, of Port Chester, was charged in connection with the fatal shooting on Dearborn Avenue at approximately midnight on Friday, June 23. ) and Oakland Beach Avenue (Oakland Beach Avenue) on Forest Avenue (Rye Town Park). Sunday, June 25.

On the night of the incident, a 16-year-old girl was talking to Olmino, who allegedly beat her up.

Olmino also allegedly told the victim he was carrying a knife, but never showed the weapon. A security guard at the park eventually stopped the attack.

At the time of his arrest, Olmino was out on bond for a Suffolk County arrest for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, police said. After being detained in Port Chester, he was charged with the following offences:

  • First degree sexual abuse.

More charges are currently pending, police added.

Olmino was subsequently processed, arraigned and remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bond. He will appear again at Rye Court on Tuesday 27 June.

Rye police were assisted in the arrest by the Westchester County Police Department, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, the FBI and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
