Eight other occupants of the home left the property before police arrived.


The Arson and Bomb Squad reported details of a house fire in New Kassel on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 10:45 am.


According to detectives, police responded to a 911 call about a fire at a home at 44 Partition Avenue in New Kassel. The home was completely engulfed in flames and police were told an elderly woman was inside.


Due to the circumstances, police were unable to search for the female victim until the fire was extinguished by the Westbury Fire Department and multiple local departments.


A Nassau County Police Department doctor at the scene identified the victim as Jaqueline Geffrard, 73. A member of the Westbury Fire Service did suffer burns to his hand while performing his duties.


Eight other occupants of the home left the property before police arrived. The Nassau County Police Department’s arson bomb squad and the Nassau County Fire Chief were also at the scene.


The fire is not considered suspicious at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
