According to Nassau County Police, the incident occurred on Thursday, June 22 at approximately 9:07 p.m. on Carle Place.

Officers conducted a routine traffic stop of Steven B. Clark, 40, near Westbury Avenue and Jamaica Avenue.

However, following an investigation, officials reported finding and eventually recovering multiple plastic bags containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, as well as items consistent with the manufacture and sale of the drug.

When officers tried to apprehend Clark, he refused, the State Police said.

Clark allegedly became violent and aggressive, and one of the officers was reportedly injured during the arrest.

The injured police officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The National Police did not release the nature of his injuries.

Clark was charged with the following:

A third-degree offense of possession of a controlled substance, six counts;

Second degree criminal offense of selling a controlled substance, four counts;

resist arrest; and

Secondary attack.

He is due to appear at First District Court on Friday, June 23.
