Just after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, officers responded to the activation of a fire spotter who detected gunfire on Roosevelt’s Hudson Avenue, according to Nassau County Police.
When officers arrived, they saw a gray Nissan Armada driving away from the fire spotter alert area.
Police reported that they followed the Armada for nearly four miles before conducting a traffic stop on Carolina Avenue in Hempstead.
The two 19-year-old suspects, Matthew Chery and Jahsire May, were successfully arrested after being investigated.

Both teenagers have been charged with the following offences:
- illegal possession of firearms
- Level 4 illegal possession of a weapon
- Second degree possession of a weapon, two counts
- Second degree crime using a firearm
- reckless hazard
- conspiracy
Both are scheduled to appear in the First District Court on Wednesday, June 21.
