The discovery was made at Hawthorne Court Flats, Hawthorne Avenue, Central Islip, at about 9.40pm on Monday, June 19.
The family told police they found Shayna Staton, 39, dead in her flat, according to Suffolk Police.
Staton was pronounced dead after suffering gunshot wounds, police said.
It is not yet clear what led to the shooting. As of Tuesday, June 20, no suspects had been arrested.
