According to Nassau County Police, the accident occurred in Uniondale shortly before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20.
A NICE bus broke down in the eastbound right lane of the Hempstead Turnpike at the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Uniondale Avenue.
Its driver, a 60-year-old man, turned on the bus’s hazard lights and placed reflective triangles on the road to alert drivers.
While seated in the vehicle, the driver reported that a white 2012 Honda Civic struck the rear of the bus hard.
An investigation found that the driver, Christian J. Cabrera Escobar, 23, did not have a driver’s license and was arrested.
Cabrera Escobar, a passenger in his vehicle and the bus driver were all taken to an area hospital for minor injuries.
Cabrera Escobar was charged with a traffic violation and DUI, the police report said.
He will be arraigned when medically feasible.
