Tropical Depression 3 formed over the mid-Atlantic on Monday, June 19, and is expected to continue moving westward over the next few days, according to the National Hurricane Center.

“The system should approach the Lesser Antilles later this week,” the hurricane center said. “Maximum sustained winds near 35 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected and the low is expected to become a hurricane within a few days.”

The waters it moves are unusually warm for this time of year, which should help strengthen the system, According to AccuWeather.com.

If maximum sustained winds reach 39 mph or more and the system continues to show an organized center of circulation, it will be named Tropical Storm Brett, AccuWeather.com said.
