A former San Jose golf course is on the market for $125 million and could be turned into a major development, according to public records. The course is currently owned by the Duino family, who have owned the property since the 1990s.

The family’s San Jose roots can be traced back to Eddie Duino, who played professionally at the San Jose Country Club. In 1959, he was named the PGA Golf Professional of the Year.

The 114-acre former Pleasant Hill Golf Course is one of the largest surviving development sites in Silicon Valley, according to SP Commercial Real Estate’s marketing brochure. The listing states that the course was a prerequisite for redevelopment as a masterplan project.

Located at 2050-2079 South White Road, the golf course closed in 2004 for a major residential development supported by the San Jose City Planning Department. However, in 2008, the city council proposed a development plan to revise the city’s master plan.

The property is directly across from the 160-acre Lake Cunningham Park and is surrounded on three sides by single-family developments. The course is also only a 15-minute drive from San Jose.

The bill, which is supported by affordable housing advocates, does not mandate that cities or golf courses do anything. It aims to increase the state’s housing supply by developing a program to provide grants to municipalities that decide to convert public classes into housing. The bill also states that at least 25 percent of new units will be for low-income families and that 15 percent of the land will remain open space.
