Multiple police and fire departments along the Erie Canal responded to Lockport Cave in Lockport, Niagara County, on Monday, June 12 at around 12:20 p.m., when one of the boats capsized, according to Lockport Police.

The historic site is about 30 miles northeast of Buffalo.

It is unclear how many passengers were on board, but Spectrum News 1 According to Buffalo reports, 36 people were on board.

Authorities did not say whether anyone was injured or killed.

“Staff are working hard to assist all parties to leave the area safely,” police said in a statement.

Gooding Street and several other surrounding streets have been closed to allow rescue vehicles and crews to enter the scene.
