Arnaldo Marcano, 42, of Bellport, was sentenced to 10 years in prison at Suffolk County Court on Wednesday 7 June.

He previously pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary in May 2023.

Shortly after midnight on Feb. 24, 2023, Marcano broke a window into a residence in Bellport, where he stole cash and fled on foot, the district attorney’s office said.

At the time of the burglary, he was on parole in Suffolk County after serving 17 years in prison for seven counts of burglary, all violent felonies.

In 2000, Marcano was sentenced to nine months in prison for attempted third-degree theft.

“Recidive offenders like this defendant pose a serious threat to the safety of our community,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said in a statement.

“Everyone deserves a second chance, but I’m not going to allow the same guy to keep committing crimes in Suffolk County, just to get slapped in the face.

“We will hold you accountable and seek substantial prison terms.”

In addition to serving time in prison, Marcano must complete five years of post-release supervision.
