Nassau County Police initially responded to Eisenhower Park at the 1899 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, reporting shots had been fired.

Officers observed LaMichael Taylor, 34, of Rockville Center, fleeing the park, jumping a fence and heading south on Merrick Avenue toward the Hempstead Turnpike.

He was arrested and an investigation uncovered a semi-automatic Smith and Wesson M&P shield .40 caliber.

Detectives located and arrested 24-year-old Brentwood resident Jahmani Harleston in connection with the incident on Tuesday, June 6, according to reports.

Both Harleston and Taylor have been charged with:

  • Level 1 Reckless Hazard
  • Second degree unlawful possession of a weapon
  • Third degree illegal possession of a weapon

Both were arraigned. Harleston will return to First District Court on Friday, June 9, with Taylor’s next court appearance scheduled for Friday, July 7.
