According to Nassau County Police, the incident occurred at around 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7.

A 62-year-old woman was holding a 1-year-old child while traveling northbound on the Jericho Turnpike on Aintree Road, according to police reports.

While crossing the street, a 2015 Ford pickup driven by a 32-year-old man struck two people while traveling west on the Turnpike.

Authorities said the woman suffered trauma to her head and torso.

She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The young boy is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries and the driver remains at the scene of the crash.

The police report said the investigation is ongoing.
