The incident happened on Nugent Drive in the hamlet of Riverside on Tuesday, June 6 in Suffolk County at around 330 pm.

Southampton Township Police responded to Nugent Drive, west of Woodhull Avenue, after reports a man had been stabbed, according to Suffolk Police.

The victim, who has not been identified by police, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Following an investigation, Southampton Township Police took homeless Gelber Lopez-Perez into custody and charged him with second-degree murder.

Police said the men knew each other and the crimes were not random.

Lopez-Perez is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, June 7.
