The epic postseason for the Mattituck, Southold, Greenport boys and girls lacrosse teams came to an end this weekend as both teams lost in the Long Island Championship Game.

This year’s postseason for the Tuckers lacrosse program has uncanny symmetry. Last week, the boys and girls teams defeated their respective Babylon HS opponents to win the Suffolk County Championship before losing to Cold Spring Harbor in their respective LI championship games.

“I’m not even upset about the way we played and the results because we made it through,” said boys senior co-captain Sean Lawson. “We had the doubters. We proved them all wrong. We made it happen. I couldn’t be more proud of my team.”

The women’s team also had high expectations but ended up being beaten five times defending long island champion cold spring harbor.

But despite Sunday’s disappointing loss, senior co-captain Brynn Gardner was quick to note that one of the keys to MSG’s success this season has been its “family atmosphere”.

“I don’t think there’s any other team like it,” she said.
