Cutchogue resident Lois McGowan passed away at his home on June 5, 2023 at the age of 88.

Lois McGowan of Southold passed away on 5 June 2023 at her home there. She was 88 years old.

Lois was married to Andrew McGowan, MD, for 61 years until his death in 2020. Her grandchildren, Laura, Christine and Claire Bowles, and Andrew, Christopher, Jane and Jack McGowan; great-granddaughter Valeria Flores; Donald Gallagher, Dana Tarasevicius and many friends and relatives.

Lois was born in Queens to Dorothy and Jack Meaney and grew up in Hollis and Garden City as part of one large loving family. She is a committed graduate and supporter of Mary Louise College and Adelphi University.

Smart, funny, accomplished, energetic, and beautiful, Lois is a social worker, elementary school teacher, interior designer, and medical office manager. Her love, strength and generosity have helped many friends, relatives and strangers through difficult times. She traveled to Africa with her husband, Andy, on medical missions and funded the construction of a doctor’s quarters at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nairobi.

For the past six years, Lois has had the privilege of being cared for by Danute Roketiene.

The family will host friends at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck on Thursday, June 8, from 3 to 7 p.m.

A Christian funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Ostrabrama RC Church, Cutchogue at 10 am on Friday, June 9, officiated by Father Ryszard Ficek, followed by a funeral at the Sacred Heart RC Cemetery.
