Suffolk Police said the victim was shot after a confrontation at Mastic Beach in the car park of 373 Neighborhood Road at around 2am on Saturday, May 20.
Alex Smith, 30, of Mastic, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Joseph Scalafani, wanted for Smith’s murder, was in Florida custody by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office just before 7 a.m. Sunday, Suffolk County Police announced Sunday, June 4.
Scalafani, 32, of Mastic Beach, was arrested outside 4700 Gulf Blvd. Pete Beach, west of St Petersburg, and will return to Suffolk to await an extradition hearing.
