The victim, identified as Alex Smith, 30, was found in a car park in Mastic Beach, Neighborhood Road, at around 2am on Saturday, May 20, according to Suffolk Police.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Friday, May 26, police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Joseph Scalafani, who is known to frequent Mastic, Mastic Beach and Shirley.
According to investigators, Scalafani shot Smith after a standoff. Police did not say whether the two men knew each other.
