Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police said the shark bit off her leg around 3pm on Wednesday, May 24, while snorkeling near the resort.
Police don’t know what kind of shark attacked the 22-year-old woman, or which Connecticut town or city she was from.
The woman was rushed to hospital in a serious condition, police said.
A British territory, the Turks and Caicos Islands are a small group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean, southeast of the Bahamas.
