On Thursday, May 25, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that temporary lane closures on New York State Thruway will be suspended to accommodate holiday travel.

Construction will be suspended from 6am on Friday 26th May and will continue until 6am on Tuesday 30th May.

“Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer as New Yorkers across the state hit the roads to spend time with friends and family,” Gov. Hochul said in a statement.

“We are suspending state road construction to ease traffic and ensure everyone gets to their destination safely with minimal delay.”

The announcement was made before the start of Memorial Day weekend.

Additionally, the New York State Department of Transportation reminds drivers to plan accordingly, including being aware of emergency repairs that may be in progress, and to avoid driving while intoxicated.
