The Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Company in Brooklyn said its 14-ounce frozen pints of French ice cream product “Brown Sugar Cubes” may contain the undeclared allergen walnuts.

“Individuals with walnut allergies or severe sensitivities may experience serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products,” the FDA said.

The recalled products were sold in retail stores nationwide.

The product comes in a reddish brown packaging with black lettering on the cup and lid as shown in the picture below.

The product is marked with lot number 23P102 (use by April 12, 2025) and is shown on the bottom of the pint.

This recall does not apply to any other lot numbers, expiration dates, or varieties of Van Leeuwen ice cream products.

The recall was initiated voluntarily after customer complaints led to the discovery that the ice cream in the batch contained walnuts but the packages distributed did not declare the presence of walnuts. The cause of the mislabeling of the product is under investigation.

Consumers who have purchased the affected batches should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
