It’s just before 10am on Saturday 20 May in Calverton.
Riverhead police said a 911 caller said a large van appeared to leave the pedestrian section of Sound Boulevard east of Edwards Boulevard, hit a utility pole and overturned.
Responding units positioned the truck on the south side of the roadway.
A 41-year-old New York City man from Brooklyn was pronounced dead at the scene by Riverhead Ambulance paramedics.
The driver, a 31-year-old man also from Brooklyn, was able to get out of the car and appeared to have suffered minor injuries, police added. He was transported by Riverhead Ambulance from the scene to Stony Brook University Hospital in a non-life-threatening condition.
The names of those involved have been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Riverhead Detectives were called to the scene and investigations revealed the truck had been traveling westbound on Sound Avenue, at some point it left its lane and struck a LIPA pole and a large tree before overturning.
The vehicles involved are owned and operated by a third-party delivery provider subcontracted by PC Richard & Son and have been making deliveries.
The Suffolk County Police Motor Transport Unit and the Suffolk County Crime Scene Team assisted at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500.
